Belmont County Tourism grant applications available

ST. CLAIRSVILLE – The Belmont County Tourism Council board of directors is pleased to announce the annual Grant Assistance Program – GAP grants — is now accepting applications for 2023.

These grants help “fill in the gap” by financially assisting nonprofit organizations with events, projects, improvements or maintenance to a tourist attraction or historical site that enhances travel and tourism in Belmont County.

“Many of the recipients would not be able to continue with their community event or attraction if it wasn’t for this grant,” Jackee Pugh, executive director of Belmont County Tourism Council, said. “Last year, the tourism board was able to award grant funds to over 40 recipients, and we are hopeful this year will yield even more applicants.”

She said last year $100,000 was given in various amounts. Pugh said the same total amount is available this year.

Any nonprofit can apply for the grant. To qualify, the event or attraction must generate tourism into Belmont County. Applications have been mailed to previous applicants but are also available online at visitbelmontcounty.com or can be picked up in the tourism office at the Ohio Valley Mall, St. Clairsville.

“We are accepting applications until March 3,” Pugh said.

The board will review all the applications, and grants will then be awarded to the qualifying recipients by March 31.

“Our office looks forward to this time every year, and we are certain that Belmont County’s nonprofit organizations appreciate it as well.”

The Belmont County Tourism Council’s mission is to bring visitors to the area through the promotion of events, attractions and unique experiences.

“We are optimistic about the future of Belmont County and looking forward to all the upcoming events happening right here, in friendly, beautiful, Belmont County,” the council wrote in a release.
