ST. CLAIRSVILLE — Former Cleveland Browns all pro kick returner and Kent State University football player Josh Cribbs recently visited Belmont Correctional Institution as a guest speaker.

Cribbs delivered a motivational speech to a gymnasium full of incarcerated adults and staff. Cribbs talked about his playing days in college and in the NFL. He also talked about why he wanted to be the best kick returner in the game.

When speaking to the staff and the incarcerated adults, Cribbs’ message was clear.

“Be goal–oriented and follow your dreams. No matter what your situation is right now, always inspire and strive for greatness,” he said.

He also added that his playing career is over, and he has moved on to the next chapter in his life with his family. Cribbs encouraged the incarcerated adults to look forward to the next chapter in their lives

“Do not be known by your mistakes but by the good you have done in your community,” he said.

Also traveling and speaking with Cribbs was longtime friend Quran Robinson. Robinson’s message to the incarcerated population was about faith and bettering oneself. Other scheduled motivational speakers visiting BeCI throughout Black History Month are Bishop Jermaine Moore, Shawn Bonner and the Rev. Darrell Cummings.

During the month of February, Belmont Correctional Institution has been celebrating Black History Month. Activities have been scheduled and offered to the incarcerated adults throughout the month. These activities include recreational and academic challenges, documentaries, movies and guest speakers.
