WOODSFIELD — Two people were arrested on drug charges after law enforcement executed a search warrant at a Duffy residence on Thursday.

According to a release from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the Monroe County Special Response Team along with deputies and detectives conducted the search as a result of an ongoing drug trafficking investigation.

“Discovered inside of the residence were multiple items concurrent with drug trafficking and drug use, including, digital scales, a large amount of 1×1 baggies, and assorted drug paraphernalia,” the release states.

Scotty L. Newlen of Sardis was arrested after allegedly being found in possession of drug abuse instruments and suspected methamphetamine.

Nancy J. Dawson of Sistersville, West Virginia, was also arrested after allegedly being found in possession of 12 heroin “stamp bags” that were concealed on her person.

Once they were transported to the Monroe County Jail, correction officers located an additional six heroin bags, all of which were concealed on Dawson’s person.

Newlen has been charged with possession of drugs, possession of drug abuse instruments and trafficking in drugs.

Dawson has been charged with possession of drugs, trafficking in drugs, tampering with evidence, and obstructing official business.

Both Newlen and Dawson are being housed at the jail.
