Buckeye Local announces graduating Class of 2023
BUCKEYE LOCAL High School will hold its commencement ceremony for the class of 2023 at 6 p.m. on Friday at World War II Stadium in Yorkville, Ohio.
The valedictorians include Dayne Carter, Elizabeth Frank, Cai McKeever and Josey Meddles. The highest honors students are Abbey Berze, Brooke Bikoski, Gage Cermak, Corissa Griffith, Rachel Jarman, Kaydence Kinyo, Emily McDiffitt, Frank McAleavey, Julia Orban, Renee Slie, Emily Valuska, Jesse Vitek and McKenna Wilhelm.
Dayne Jackson Carter is the son of Jack and Myste Carter and brother of Jayse Carter of New Alexandria. He served as cross country captain and co-President of the National Honor Society. He is a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Foreign Language Club, Varsity Board, Art Club, Science Club, and Mock Trial.
He earned varsity letters in cross country, basketball, track, and academics. He has competed in the Sea, Air and Land Challenge and the Envirothon. Dayne participated in the HOBY State Leadership Program his sophomore year.
Carter has been involved in 4-H for 13 years where he served as a camp counselor, competed in still projects, and served as a junior leader.
After graduation, he will attend the University of Cincinnati to pursue a degree in industrial design with the ambition to work in the automotive industry to design vehicles. Carter would like to thank his friends for all the memories, and he wishes all his classmates the best of luck in the future.
Elizabeth Danielle Frank is daughter of the late John and Chrissy Frank Sr. and older sister to John Frank Jr. of Rayland. She was involved in many clubs including National Honor Society, Foreign Language Club, Merit Scholar, Student Council, and the Thespian Society.
She is a member of the Panther Bowling Team, the BLHS Panther Band including marching, jazz, and concert bands. She has lettered in bowling, band, and academics.
Outside of high school Frank was inducted into the National Society of High School Scholars also known as the NSHSS.
She is a member of the Starkdale Presbyterian Church in Wintersville. She is highly involved in the Jefferson County 4-H Program where she was a camp counselor and on the Jr. Fair Board. She is also a member of the Scouts BSA where she was the first girl in Jefferson County to receive her Eagle Award.
Upon graduation, she will attend Ohio Northern University to major in molecular biology and double minor in chemistry and biochemistry. She also has committed to bowl on the bowling team at ONU. With this degree she hopes to become a research scientist to work on genetic diseases. Frank would like to wish her fellow classmates the best of luck in their future endeavors.
Cai Justin McKeever is the son of Charles and Brooke Stingle and older brother to Brynn McKeever and Charles Stingle of Rayland. He is the co-president of the National Honor Society and co-president of the Foreign Language Club. He is also a member of Merit Scholar, Chi-Phi Society, Highest Honors, Student Council, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and Academic Challenge. Cai has also been awarded All-Academic OVAC, MOVL All-Team, and was the Americanism Test winner for two years in a row.
McKeever has run and lettered in both cross country and track and field for four years. He is also the field commander of the BLHS Panther Marching Band. He is a member of the Town and Country 4-H Club. He has shown horses for twelve years and has served on the Jefferson County Junior Fair Board. He has worked at the local Dairy Queen for two years.
Upon graduation, McKeever plans to attend Kent State University to pursue a degree in fashion merchandising and Business. He then plans to attend law school after receiving his degree. He would like to wish all his fellow classmates the best of luck in their future endeavors.
Josey Lee Meddles is the daughter of Tricia and Jason Meddles of Adena. She has an older sister, Nichole, and a younger brother, Jesse.
Meddles is a member of the National Honors Society, Foreign Language Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Student Council, Merit Scholar, and the Academic Challenge Team. With these clubs, she has been able to volunteer for many activities, including food pantries, blood drives, and litter cleanups.
She participates on the cheerleading squad and the softball team where she was selected as one of the captains her senior year. She has lettered in both sports. She also plays the baritone in the BLHS Panther Band and is in the choir.
Upon graduation, Meddles is attending The Ohio State University, where she will be majoring in biology. She then plans to further her education to obtain her doctorate in physical therapy. She would like to wish all her classmates the best of luck in their futures.
Highest Honors:
Abbey Berze is the daughter of Jim and Paula Berze. Sheis currently undecided on her major but will be attending Ohio University Eastern this fall.
Brooke Bikoski is the daughter of Randy and Lisa Bikoski. After graduation, she will attend Ohio University to pursue a degree in communications.
Gage Cermak is the son of Billy and Tynae Cermak. He will attend West Virginia University School of Medicine majoring in exercise physiology in the fall. He plans to be become a pediatric oncologist or a physician assistant.
Corissa Griffith is the daughter of Steve and Melissa Griffith. In the fall, she will attend The Ohio State Agricultural Technical Institute majoring in Agriscience Education.
Rachel Jarman is the daughter of Marcie Jarman and Roy Jarman. She is planning to travel after graduation. She plans to start with the state of Alaska.
Kaydence Kinyo is the daughter of Ken and Krista Kinyo. To further her education, she will attend The Ohio State this fall. She will major in animal science with the goal of becoming a large animal veterinarian.
