FAIRS, FESTIVALS & CARNIVALS: Marietta’s own Washington County Fair scheduled for early September
MARIETTA, Ohio — The Washington County Fair is slated for Sept. 2-5 at the fairgrounds, located at 922 Front St. in Marietta.
This event begins with an annual parade through the streets of the historic city at 10 a.m. on opening day. It features livestock exhibitors, putting their beef, horses, goats, poultry, rabbits and sheep on display.
A variety of tractor and horse pulls are part of the fun, along with the time-honored tradition of harness racing.
A highlight of the Home Arts section of the fair is the Pie Baking Contest. Open to bakers of all ages, this competition requires the entry of a 6- or 8-inch whole pie that is homemade. Entries are judged on taste, texture and appearance, with homemade fillings receiving extra points over those from a can.
The best part comes after the judging, when all the pies are auctioned off for hungry fair-goers to take home. Winning bidders get a whole pie — minus one piece removed for judging.
On-site camping is available during the fair.
