Monroe County Fair set to kick off Monday

WOODSFIELD — The 173rd Monroe County Fair will kick off Monday morning and run through Saturday. The fairgrounds will be open every day from 8 a.m. until midnight. The fair will feature a variety of entertainment, exhibits, livestock shows, carnival rides, vendors and food.

Rides open at 4:30 p.m. on Monday and will open at 3 p.m. on Tuesday through Saturday.

A flag-raising ceremony will take place at 8:45 a.m. daily, and a flag retreat will take place at 7:45 p.m. every evening.

An arcade will be open every day from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

John Williams, president of the fair board, said that most of the entertainment lined up for the fair will be the same as last year.

9 a.m. — 4-H booth judging

5:30 p.m. — Junior Fair parade

6 p.m. — Presentation of fair royalty

7 p.m. — Calf scramble and mutton busting

7:30 p.m. — KOI Drag Racing

7-9 p.m. — Rick Tincher and Jessica Schoonover with The Birch River Band

∫ Tuesday

1 p.m. — Jr. Fair horse driving classes

3 p.m. — Harness racing

4 p.m. — Monroe Singers perform

6 p.m. — Horseshoe pitching

7 p.m. — Monroe Theatre Jamboree

∫ Wednesday

3 p.m. — Harness racing

7 p.m. — Rough Truck and side-by-side races

7 p.m. — Karaoke with Jeff Gardner

∫ Thursday

11 a.m. — Small market animal sale

3:30 p.m. — Presentation of outstanding 4-H project awards

4 p.m. — Large market animal sale

5 p.m. — Antique tractor pull

6-8 p.m. — Jr. Fair premium pick-up

6 p.m. — Price Sisters perform

∫ Friday

10 a.m. – 4 p.m. — COSI on wheels

1 p.m. — Water balloon volleyball contest

1:30 p.m. — 4-H Cloverbud graduation

2 p.m. — FFA Kid’s Day activities

3:30 p.m. — Animal dress-up contest

6 p.m. — Buckeye State pedal pull

7 p.m. Truck and tractor pull

∫ Saturday

3:30-5:30 p.m. — Carson Clouse performance

7 p.m. — Demolition derby

8-11 p.m. — Square dance

10 p.m. — Garden tractor pulls

Admission costs $10 each day and will include rides and shows. Children ages 2 and under can enter the fair for free. Fairgoers can also purchase season tickets for $35 each which will not include rides. Ride passes can be purchased for an additional $6.

Those ages 60 and over and veterans can attend the fair for $3 on Tuesday.

Friday will be “youth kids day” meaning that admission and rides for children ages 3-12 will be reduced to $7 for the day.

“We’ve done a lot of work over the summer getting the fairgrounds ready,” Williams said.

He said that there’s new concrete in the show barn, new lighting at the track and 20 new sites at the campgrounds.

“We spent quite a bit of money getting ready for this year’s fair,” Williams said.
