This year's King Pumpkin was auctioned for a record-setting amount following the Barnesville Pumpkin Festival. According to Dean Wehr of the festival committee, the 1,950-pound gourd was bought by a group of 48 Barnesville businesses for $15,000. Wehr noted last year's King Pumpkin went for $13,000. Wehr said the proceeds will help to pay for next year's festival. The King Pumpkin will be displayed in the central parking lot in Barnesville. It eventually will be split, with half the seeds going to the businesses and half to the festival committee. Bill Neptune of New Concord, Ohio, grew the pumpkin. It was his fourth festival win.
