Raze International makes progress in razing the former Belmont County Home, boiler house and water sanitation building. Commissioners noted Wednesday that an underground pipe was uncovered and will be tested, removed and disposed of. Three underground cisterns will also be removed and backfilled with stone to ensure safety and structural integrity of the surrounding landscape. This will add $820 and $22,000, respectively, to the cost of the work, bringing total cost of the project to $191,120. As of Wednesday, the boiler house had been completely demolished and the home about 50 percent removed. Demolition of the sanitation building should begin next week. New facilities such as a health department building will be erected on the site.
