CLARINGTON -- The Monroe County Sheriff's Office reported that deputies discovered drugs and a loaded pistol during a traffic stop around 4:33 p.m. Nov. 22 in Clarington.
According to a press release from Sheriff Charles Black Jr., Deputy Will Poling performed the traffic stop and identified the driver as Derek Knowlton of Clarington.
K-9 handler Deputy David Miller arrived at the scene to assist Poling. Miller then deployed K-9 Max, who alerted the officers to indications of narcotics in the vehicle. Poling and Miller searched the vehicle and, according to Black's release, found methamphetamines, drug abuse instruments and a loaded pistol.
Knowlton was arrested and transported to the Monroe County Jail, charged with drug possession and improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle.
He was released after posting a $15,000 bond on Thursday, the release states.
