Second person charged in Wheeling man’s fatal overdose

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Pa. — A Wheeling man has been charged in connection with another man’s fatal overdose last year.

North Strabane Township police charged Alex Thomas Lichwa with felonies of drug delivery resulting in death, possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and criminal use of a communication facility.

The charges, filed Monday, stem from the March 26, 2023, death of Nathan Wright, 32, of Wheeling. Jenna Marie Hastings also has previously been charged in the case.

Police said Wright met Hastings in Wheeling the morning of March 26 and purchased several stamp bags of fentanyl before traveling to Washington County, where he ingested the drugs.

According to court records, Hastings told police in an interview April 6, 2023, that Lichwa was with her, and she was worried Wright was trying to rip her off or was a confidential informant.

According to the criminal complaint, Hastings gave the drugs to Lichwa, who then made the delivery to Wright. Police said they found a “CashApp” transaction of $60 from Wright to Lichwa on March 26.

Hastings also allegedly exchanged text messages about the sale with Wright that morning.

There is an active warrant for Lichwa’s arrest.

Hastings, 37, of Wheeling, appeared for a preliminary hearing in February, and District Judge James Saieva ordered her to stand trial on all charges.
