WVNCC names new Vice President of Learning

WHEELING — Angela Hawk has a new role at West Virginia Northern Community College, as she has been named the college’s new vice president for learning. She steps into that job after a stint as WVNCC’s director of assessment.
“I am deeply honored to serve as the Vice President for Learning at WVNCC,” Hawk said. “WVNCC has a strong commitment to student success, and I look forward to continuing to work with our dedicated faculty and staff to enhance our educational programs and assessment practices.”
Hawk, a first-generation college student from Stockton, California, arrived in Wheeling in 2020. As WVNCC’s assessment director since then, she successfully guided the college through the assessment components of its recent 10-year comprehensive evaluation and helped achieve accreditation through the Higher Learning Commission. Hawk earned her doctorate in U.S. History at the University of California, Irvine, where she specialized in the history of mental illness and its treatment. Her dissertation, supported by nearly $70,000 in grant funding, included a nationally competitive ACLS/Mellon fellowship, explored the international connections of a Gold Rush-era mental institution in her hometown.
Hawk went on to serve as a full-time faculty member in History and International Studies at California State University, Long Beach. She recently completed her Higher Education Assessment Specialist Graduate Certificate from James Madison University.
“We are excited to continue to work with Dr. Hawk in her new capacity as the Vice President for Learning,” commented WVNCC President Daniel Mosser. “Dr. Hawk’s extensive experience in higher education, leadership and assessment will undoubtedly contribute to the continued success of our institution.”
In her new role, Hawk will continue to collaborate closely with faculty, staff, and administrators to oversee teaching and learning for the college.She is responsible for the college’s Office of Academic Affairs, including more than 70 faculty and staff positions.
