WHEELING — The Wheeling Police Department said a Martins Ferry man was the victim in a single-vehicle fatal crash in Wheeling on Tuesday night.

Hershel Charles Dutton, 68, of Martins Ferry was the driver of the minivan that went over an embankment and crashed into the creek near the intersection of W.Va. 88 and Warden Run Road.

Dutton was transported to Wheeling Hospital, where he died. There were no other occupants inside the vehicle. WPD’s crash reconstruction unit is continuing to investigate the cause.

The road was closed for several hours and reopened around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.
