Dead body found on Wheeling Island, no foul play suspected
WHEELING –No foul play was suspected after a dead body was found Wednesday morning on Wheeling Island, according to the Wheeling Police Department.
Wheeling Police Det. Brandon Hoehn said that officers were called to South Wabash St. on Wheeling Island around 11:30 a.m. after a body was found on the Ohio River shoreline near the Interstate 70 bridge. Once officers and Wheeling Fire Department crews arrived, Hoehn said the body of an older man was “obviously DOA.”
First responders set a perimeter about two houses wide near the river shore in order to investigate and retrieve the body. The scene was cleared at around 12:45 p.m.
Hoehn said there were no suspicious circumstances that WPD was worried about in relation to the death. The body will be transported to the West Virginia Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy to confirm the cause of death.
