Jefferson Vocational School adult education registration begins

BLOOMINGDALE — Jefferson County Joint Vocational School’s adult education program is gearing up for its fall term with a variety of classes available.

Registration will be held today and Sept. 9-12 at the site, which is located at 1509 County Highway 22A, Bloomingdale, by calling the JVS from 3-8 p.m. Program Coordinator Aubri Stewart said brochures have been mailed and among the courses offered are computer, trade and industries and a range of special interests.

“Classes begin the third week of September,” she said. “We do have a few new classes this term and a couple of classes are on hold until winter.”

One computer class is included in the catalog: Introduction to Technology, an eight-week course held on Tuesdays starting Sept. 17 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at a cost of $40. Trade and industries courses include Small Engine Repair, a six-week program held each Thursday starting Sept. 26 from 6-9 p.m. for $30; Basic Auto Mechanics (female friendly), an eight-week course held Tuesdays starting Sept. 24 from 6-9 p.m. for $35; Basic Carpentry/Handyman, a six-week course on Wednesdays beginning Sept. 25 from 5-8 p.m. for $35 plus supplies; and Basic Electricity, a six-week course each Tuesday starting Sept. 24 from 6-8 p.m. for $40. Among the special interest programs are Decorative Painting for the Beginner, a six-week course on Tuesdays starting Sept. 24 from 6-9 p.m. for $35 plus supplies; Advanced Quilting, an eight-week class on Wednesdays beginning Sept. 18 from 5-8 p.m. for $35 plus $10 for supplies; Decorative Painting, a six-week class on Thursdays starting Sept. 26 from 6-9 p.m. for $35 plus supplies; Guitar, an eight-week course each Thursday starting Sept. 26 from 6-9 p.m. for $35; Learn How to Use a Cricut (Class No. 1), a four-week course each Tuesday starting Sept. 17 from 6-8 p.m. for $30; How to Use a Cricut (Class No. 2), a four-week course on Tuesdays starting Oct. 15 from 6-8 p.m. for $30; and Conversational Italian, an eight-week course on Tuesdays starting Sept. 17 from 6-8 p.m. for $35.

Payment will be made during the first night of class at the front desk. Registration is needed to avoid a class cancellation and a minimum of five students is required for it to proceed. The program is open to all persons 18 years or older regardless of educational background or residence. A certificate of completion will be given to students enrolled in certain programs who have attended a minimum of 60 percent of the classes.

Some classes may require students to purchase textbooks, workbooks, safety equipment or other materials and prices are not included in the course fee. The JVS reserves the right to cancel any class due to insufficient enrollment and a full refund will be made. If a student withdraws prior to the second class, a refund minus a $10 processing fee will be remitted. Please allow two to four weeks for the refund to be processed.

Additional specialized classes, workshops and seminars may also be arranged to meet the needs of businesses, companies, employees or the general public by contacting the adult education office. Requests for this service should be made during the week of registration. Inclement weather conditions which impact evening classes may result in a cancellation, and a decision will be made by 3 p.m. that day.
