Four-year-old, mother victims in fatal I-70 crash

CLAYSVILLE, Pa. — The Washington County coroner has identified the child who died in Sunday’s head-on collision with a tractor-trailer on Interstate 70 along with his mother.

Killed was 4-year-old Abdul-Salami Touray of Columbus, Ohio, according to Coroner Timothy Warco.

State police confirmed the front-seat passenger who died was the child’s mother, but she has yet to be identified.

According to Warco, Touray was not restrained in a car seat. Neither his mother nor the driver was wearing a seatbelt.

The accident occurred shortly after 1 p.m. on Mother’s Day near the Claysville exit of I-70. The vehicle in which Touray and his mother were riding was headed west when it crossed the median into the eastbound lanes, and struck a tractor-trailer head-on.

The woman was declared dead at the scene while Touray was transported via helicopter to UPMC Washington Hospital, where he was declared dead at 2:04 p.m., according to Warco.

Officials have not identified the driver of the vehicle.

Ambulance and Chair responded to the scene, along with fire departments from Claysville, West Alexander, Taylorstown and North Franklin Township.

State police are investigating.
