WLU celebrated 2025 commencement Saturday

WEST LIBERTY — West Liberty University held its Spring 2025 Commencement ceremony on Saturday, honoring 304 graduates.

WLU alumna Katie Kacmarik served as commencement speaker and was presented an honorary degree from the University. Kacmarik is Business Operations Integrator, Compounding Services Manager, and Pharmacist for Pharmacole Inc., which owns and operates Moundsville Pharmacy.

“It is truly an honor to address the Class of 2025 at West Liberty University. As an alumna, I know firsthand the transformative impact this university has in building the foundation for who we become. Commencement marks both an ending and a beginning — and I hope to remind our graduates to carry forward a spirit of gratitude for those who walked beside them, and to embrace the incredible power of giving back,” Kacmarik stated.

The day was also marked by student speaker Natalie (Nat) Burke, a native of Bel Air, MD.

Burke is a Zoo Science major with a concentration in Marine and Aquarium Studies and a World Music minor. They attended West Liberty as an Elbin Scholar, maintaining a 4.0 GPA and graduating Summa Cum Laude.

WLU president Tim Borchers presided over the ceremony and offered words of encouragement while recognizing student’s accomplishments and future potential.
