WELLSBURG — The Brooke County Sheriff’s Department and West Virginia State Police are investigating the shooting death of a man Friday afternoon at a commercial garage on Fowler Hill Road.

The Brooke County Sheriff’s Department confirmed a man was pronounced dead at the scene and another man was taken into custody without incident following the shooting. Brooke County Chief Sheriff’s Deputy Doug Mills said the second man is being held at the West Virginia Northern Regional Jail with formal charges pending the investigation.

He said the names of the individuals weren’t being released while the two departments conduct the investigation.

Mills confirmed others were at the business, whom he also didn’t name, but not in the immediate area of the shooting when it occurred, and no one else was harmed.
