Williams Co., donates $50K to CFOV disaster recovery fund
WHEELING — In a short time, the Disaster Response and Recovery Fund at the Community Foundation for the Ohio Valley has grown into a significant resource for those affected by the June 14 flash floods in Ohio County. The fund grew even more with the announcement Tuesday of a major corporate donation.
Williams Co., an energy company with operations throughout the Ohio Valley, has donated $50,000 to the fund, the largest donation to the fund so far. Williams’ contribution joins the $25,000 each donated from Norfolk Southern, The Paisley Foundation and WesBanco.
The foundation has also received many donations from individuals, churches and other groups and the fund has grown in a little more than a month to well over $200,000.
“It’s wonderful,” said Susie Nelson, executive director of the CFOV. “The individual contributions not only to our fund, but to support the United Way and other efforts is always wonderful and always more than we expect. But when the corporations step up in this way, it’s really heartwarming and means a lot.”
Nelson also mentioned that Williams has helped in flood recovery with its actions as much as with its donations.
Williams employees have worked throughout the community helping flood victims get back on their feet.
“Recovering from these devastating floods will take time,” said Cody Cunningham, director of Ohio River Supply Hub operations at Williams. “Our hope is that these funds can assist families — our neighbors — in the ongoing recovery efforts. We’re thankful for all the organizations and individuals who have spent countless hours over the past two months giving back to help our community recover.”
Nelson said Williams’ contribution is just another example of the giving spirit and sense of community found in the Ohio Valley.
“It shows how philanthropic the community is here,” she said.
