FEMA application period ends Monday
TRIADELPHIA — Those in Ohio County who still must register with the Federal Emergency Management Agency to receive relief from the deadly June floods have until the end of Monday to do so.
Applying in person no longer is an option. The FEMA Disaster Recovery Center at the Triadelphia Community Center closed Friday evening. Yet there are still multiple ways to apply.
Those still needing to register can visit DisasterRecovery.gov, download the FEMA app or call the FEMA helpline at 800-621-3362.
After the Monday deadline passes, those who have applied are asked to please stay in touch with FEMA. Phone calls from FEMA may come from unknown phone numbers. Applicants can check their status via phone, website or app. To view an accessible video on how to apply, visit What You Need to Know Before Applying for FEMA Assistance.
Applicants should also file an insurance claim. If they have homeowners, renters, or flood insurance, they should file a claim before applying for FEMA assistance. FEMA cannot duplicate benefits for losses covered by insurance. If an applicant’s policy does not cover all disaster expenses, they may be eligible for federal assistance. While their claim is processing, FEMA assistance may be able to help with uninsured losses. This can include help if you are displaced, need temporary lodging, require basic home repair costs, or lose personal property.
According to FEMA, the federal government so far has distributed $9.7 million in aid to affected residents in Ohio and Marion counties, both of which saw extensive damage from the floods. Of those funds, $6.5 million were distributed in Ohio County alone. More than 1,000 disaster survivors have applied for aid, 561 of them coming from Ohio County.
