Juveniles charged for vehicle vandalism

MINGO JUNCTION — Two juveniles, both under 13 years of age, are facing charges in the Jefferson County juvenile justice system for alleged acts of vandalism involving vehicles and a home.

Village Police Chief Willie McKenzie said the pair were taken into custody after security camera footage linked them to windows that were broken in five vehicles and one home.

McKenzie said the glass was broken with pieces of asphalt taken from the ground, and he’s been asked to submit an estimate of damages for restitution that may be ordered for the pair.

He said the case is pending against the two, who were held in juvenile detention for two weeks before being placed on house arrest.

McKenzie applauded the owners of JK Auto Glass, a local business, who agreed to split the cost, with officials at the police department, for repairs to the automobile of a woman who already was dealing with financial issues.
