Jefferson County Board of Elections issues voter registration reminder
STEUBENVILLE — The Jefferson County Board of Elections issued a reminder regarding the upcoming voter registration deadline for the Nov. 4 general election.
“Every resident of Jefferson County has a variety of different offices and levies to decide on in this upcoming election,” said Robert Gale, director of the Jefferson County Board of Elections. “While a lot of focus is always placed on our Presidential and Midterm Elections, these races are equally as important as they are for the offices that operate our local government, provide funding for our local services, and much more.”
Any voter can check the status of their voter registration by visiting the Ohio Secretary of State’s Voter Information Website at voteohio.gov.
The deadline to register to vote as a new voter in Jefferson County or to update your registration for any reason is Monday, Oct. 6. Any individual who has not yet registered to vote in Jefferson County, has moved anywhere within Jefferson County without updating their registration yet, or has had their name change (such as in cases of marriage, divorce, or other circumstances) must register or update their registration by 9 p.m. Monday, Oct. 6.
To register or update your registration by the deadline, you have several options:
∫ If you have an unexpired Ohio Driver’s License or an Ohio Identification Card, you can register to vote or update your registration at voteohio.gov, which is the official Ohio Secretary of State Online Registration System.
∫ You can visit the Jefferson County Board of Elections located at the Ohio Valley Towers Building at 500 Market St., Suite 1, Steubenville, Ohio 43952 during normal business hours, with extended hours until 9 p.m. Monday, Oct. 6, to do so.
∫ You can register with an agency of the Jefferson County Board of Elections that provides Voter Registration Services such as any Ohio BMV Agency, the Public Library of Steubenville & Jefferson County, and the Jefferson County Department of Job & Family Services.
Voters who are not registered by the deadline or are not otherwise registered elsewhere in Ohio prior to moving to Jefferson County will not be able to cast their ballot in the Nov. 4 general election, per Ohio Law.
“There are over 100 offices and 26 issues for residents from throughout Jefferson County to consider and cast their ballot for in November,” said Gale. “Please take a moment to verify your registration and if needed, register or update your current registration by the deadline.”
