BELMONT COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE
At 9 p.m. Tuesday, an officer on a traffic stop of a West Virginia vehicle on National Road in Bridgeport near Big Lots reported that narcotics and two firearms were found. Two males were taken to jail.
At 8:16 p.m. Tuesday, several units from the sheriff’s office and units from the Bellaire Police Department assisted Shadyside Police with a report of a breaking and entering at an address on Central Avenue in Shadyside. The house was cleared, according to the report.
At 3:13 p.m. Tuesday, a caller from Rock River Road in Jerusalem reported that his identity was stolen, and someone had purchased a cell phone in his name. A deputy reported that the complainant had to report the fraud to the bank and to Verizon. The complainant was also given instruction on how to obtain a copy of the theft report.
At 10:46 p.m. Tuesday, an officer responded to an address in Bellaire to perform a welfare check on a student from middle school who was not in attendance. The student was transported to the school by their mother, the report stated.
At 10:49 a.m. Tuesday, a caller from an address on Cats Run Road in Powhatan Point reported that her identity was stolen and she needed a call record number for the IRS and for her attorney.
At noon on Tuesday, officers responded to an address on Dorsch Road in Martins Ferry for a report of a male causing issues on a caller’s property. He left on foot before officers arrived. While speaking with individuals on the scene about these issues, one responding officer was bitten by a large German Shepherd, causing puncture wounds in her uniform pants but no injuries, the report stated.
At 8:38 a.m. Tuesday, a caller from Poplar Drive in Bellaire reported that an elderly male was walking around trying to get into cars. The caller said the male seemed to be confused. Deputies responded and searched the area but were unable to locate any male fitting this description.
At 7:41 a.m. Tuesday, an officer responded to the Clark station in East Richland on National Road, St. Clairsville, for a motor vehicle accident with property damage only. An Ohio motorist reportedly backed into a Pepsi delivery truck. Information was taken for a crash report.
