Online Oglebay Park & Wilson Lodge surplus auction slated for today
WHEELING — An online auction of Oglebay Park Resort and Wilson Lodge’s surplus items will take place at Joerpyleauctions.com on today at 6 p.m.
Auctioneer John Powell said that because Oglebay is a public entity it isn’t able to just give any vehicles away.
“They have to dispose of the auction so that’s what they’re doing. They contacted our company to do that,” Powell said. “They also had some leftover items from the remodeling that they did a few years ago of the lodge as well.”
An old park trolley, furniture, a pickup truck, distinctive signage from Oglebay’s Glass Works restaurant and lounge and much more will be available for auction.
Powell said that Joe R. Pyle is one of the largest auction companies in the state of West Virginia. He added that the business is headquartered in West Virginia, but also does business in Ohio, Kentucky, Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania.
“This is a very popular way for entities to maximize their profits while having as little overhead as possible,” Powell said.
He said this is the first time the company has worked with Oglebay and believes it will be a successful auction for everyone involved.
“Don’t miss this chance to own a piece of Oglebay history while saving big. Whether you’re furnishing a space, or adding character with unique signage, this surplus sale has something for everyone,” Joe R. Pyle posted on its website.
Before going to auction on Monday, Oglebay Park & Wilson Lodge and Joe R. Pyle held a viewing at Oglebay’s central receiving center where interested parties could see items up for bid.
Powell said that the auction starts closing at 6 p.m. The way the online auction works is the first item begins closing at 6 p.m. and then the other items starts closing every two minutes after.
