Shooting leads to victim in stable but critical condition and shooter dead
WHEELING — An early morning shooting Saturday led to one victim in stable but critical condition, a pursuit, and the shooter dead by self-inflicted gunshot.
Ohio County deputies were called to the Triadelphia area due to a victim being shot around 5:30 a.m. on Saturday morning.
Ohio County Sheriff Nelson Croft said that the victim was able to drive herself to the Marathon Gas Station in Elm Grove where EMS found her and transported her to WVU Medicine Wheeling Hospital.
He said she had been shot twice with a shotgun through her car window by her ex-boyfriend.
“Out of respect for the victim, we’re not releasing any names right now,” Croft said.
After the victim was taken to Wheeling Hospital a “be on the lookout” report was placed on the ex-boyfriend’s truck, which was located near Sherrard Middle School by Marshall County Sheriff’s deputies.
Croft said the shooter led deputies on a pursuit down Garvin’s Lane, and passed over Big Wheeling Creek. He said that the driver made nearly a complete circle before being boxed in by deputies at Mt. Olivet car wash.
“Deputies boxed the driver in, and unfortunately he got out with a rifle and took his life,” Croft said.
