Woman arrested for allegedly falsely claiming she was stabbed

MOUNDSVILLE — The woman who called police last week for help after allegedly being stabbed is now facing charges herself.

Victoria Wade, a Marshall County resident, has been arrested for allegedly falsely reporting an emergency incident and obstructing, both misdemeanors, said Moundsville Police Department Chief Tom Mitchell.

On Dec. 11, Wade reported that a man who tried to steal her purse in the Moundsville Plaza parking lot also stabbed her.

However, Mitchell said after further investigation, police discovered otherwise. Wade allegedly stabbed herself and no one tried to rob her.

“I’m not going to go into the graphic details, but she required medical attention and stitches,” he said. “No one else was injured. She operated by herself; no one else was involved.”

Mitchell noted that Moundsville is a safe place to live, and most of its crimes are property crimes related to theft. However, people should still remain aware of their surroundings when they are out and about, he added.
