STEUBENVILLE — Alyssa Mosti has officially taken her seat as the newest member of the Jefferson County Board of Developmental Disabilities and plans to use her skills to benefit individuals in the community.
Mosti, of Wintersville, was approved by the Jefferson County commissioners in January and appointed to a four-year term with the board. She said she was approached by School of Bright Promise Education Director Sara Wright and Superintendent Michael Zinno about filling a vacant seat and was eager to participate.
“Sara and I had worked together in a previous school setting, so she was aware of my background and passion for working with individuals with disabilities,” Mosti said. “I was not involved with the board prior and began working with them through the appointment.”
She took her seat during the board’s February meeting and hopes to incorporate her experience into her service.
Mosti’s professional background provides a distinct advantage. She has served as an intervention specialist for the past decade and holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary special education and a master’s degree in educational administration. She highlighted her qualifications in her letter of interest to the board, noting they would support her service.
“I have experience supporting students with diverse learning needs, collaborating with families, and implementing effective instructional and behavioral supports,” her letter stated. “Through my professional experience, I have developed a strong understanding of special education programming, compliance and advocacy.
“I am passionate about ensuring students receive high-quality, meaningful and student-centered educational opportunities. I am excited to contribute my knowledge, perspective and commitment to the mission, vision and success of services for children and adults with disabilities in Jefferson County.”
Mosti is married and has two sons, Rhett and Cade, and said she is excited to serve on the board.
“I am very excited to be a part of the JCBDD and to be involved in growing services for youth and adults with disabilities throughout the county,” she said. “There are a lot of exciting projects in the works that I look forward to becoming more involved with, including the JeffCo Community Inclusive Playground.”
Superintendent Michael Zinno said Mosti will bring valuable experience to the board.
“We have an active board that cares deeply about our programs, services and, most importantly, the individuals and families we support,” Zinno said. “I am happy to welcome Mrs. Mosti to our board. She will be a valuable asset to our program.”
