ST. CLAIRSVILLE — Get your appetites ready for the St. Clairsville Main Street Small Business Association’s third annual chili cook-off on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Participating businesses will host local chili makers, and attendees will be able to vote for their favorite.
Each business will host one chili maker during the event, and tastings are free to the public.
The winner will be selected by public vote, with ballots cast at Cedar One Realty.
Attendees will walk along Main Street, stopping at 15 area businesses competing for bragging rights, along with $200 for first place and $100 each for second- and third-place winners. The top three will also receive medals and plaques.
“We’re inviting everyone to explore the heart of our town. Grab a free tasting spoon, enjoy the new and longtime spots on Main Street, and help us crown the chili champion,” Luran Williams said.
The walk begins at Whispering Willow and continues in order to: Newellstown Diner; The Main Salon and Boutique; Relaxology and Repair Massage Therapy Spa; Graciously Abby’s Craft Center & Emporium; The Olive Branch Christian Gifts; Papa D’s Pizza; Zel Properties; Emily’s Creations; Audrey’s Avenue Kitchen & Bar; Sweets by Sarah; Melting Pot Marketing Place; Fur Pets Sake Resell Boutique; Giacinta’s Gelato & Caffe; and ends at Cedar One Realty.
“It’s a completely free event, and people can just grab a map and go,” Williams said. “We’ll have a place for them to write notes on the map for each chili to keep track, and then they’ll come to Cedar One to cast their votes.”
She said the competition has been such a success that the association plans to continue it as a longstanding annual event.
“It’s a great way to bring our community together and also get local home cooks involved who love to participate and share their cooking skills,” Williams said. “The weather is going to be perfect, the event is free, and it’s going to be a lot of fun.”
Williams added that the event is also a great opportunity for attendees to discover Main Street businesses.
“The foot traffic is great for businesses along Main Street because people have the opportunity to check out their products and services,” she said. “It brings new people into their stores.”
