STEUBENVILLE — Investigators are looking for answers as to what led to Tuesday’s house explosion at 202 Rosslyn Blvd.

According to Fire Chief Joe Ribar, firefighters received a call concerning the blast about 8:30 p.m., and when they arrived, they found a collapsed structure with small amounts of fire visible

The initial crews extinguished those flames, and a person who had been injured was transported to a local hospital, the chief added.

Ribar said the Jefferson County Urban Search and Rescue Team was called to the scene to stabilize the structure, and when crews were able to safely enter, they discovered a body.

Local firefighters were on the scene for about nine hours, the chief said, adding the investigation has been turned over to the state fire marshal’s office.

The fire marshal’s office had no comment about the incident when contacted Wednesday afternoon.

Residents in the neighborhood said the blast was powerful enough to blow out windows in nearby houses, according to reports from Tuesday night.

Responding agencies included the Toronto Fire Department, Wintersville Fire Department, American Electric Power and other emergency responders. Crews from Columbia Gas were called to shut off service.
