MOUNDSVILLE — Moundsville, West Virginia resident Don DeWitt won the Republican bid for the West Virginia House of Delegates District 6 seat during Tuesday’s primary election.

DeWitt defeated incumbent Delegate Jeff Stephens by a 911-495 vote count, according to unofficial results.

“I’m very pleased voters chose me. I am extremely flattered and humbled. It’s an honor,” DeWitt said. “I’m very pleased I won this part of the election and I hope I can win again in November.”

DeWitt said he will continue campaigning by meeting people, attending events and advertising.

Stephens said he appreciated supporters during the election.

“I appreciate everyone’s support, whether it’s in the voting booth or letting me put up signs,” he said. “I had a lot of support from the community and the kids at school. Sometimes it’s not in God’s plans and other things happen and other things will open up in my life.”

He wished other candidates good luck in the general election.

DeWitt will face Democrat Cody Cumpston in the general election in November.
