MARTINS FERRY -- Martins Ferry City Council will meet at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, in council chambers at the city building. The meeting is open to the public.
Free movie at Moundsville library
MOUNDSVILLE -- The Moundsville-Marshall County Public Library will host a free showing of The Devil Wears Prada 2 at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 17, in the downstairs meeting room.
The 2026 PG-13 film stars Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci and runs 120 minutes. For more information, call 304-845-6911. The library is located at the corner of Fifth and Tomlinson streets.
Belmont-Harrison schools offer free meals
ST. CLAIRSVILLE -- The Belmont-Harrison Vocational School District will provide breakfast and lunch at no charge to all students during the 2026-27 school year through the Community Eligibility Provision.
The program eliminates the need for families to complete meal applications for free, reduced-price or paid student meals.
Families with children eligible for school meals also may qualify for free health care coverage through Medicaid and Ohio’s Healthy Start and Healthy Families programs. Planning commission to meet
ST. CLAIRSVILLE -- The Belmont County Planning Commission will meet at noon Monday, Aug. 24, at Annex III, 101 N. Market St., St. Clairsville. The meeting is open to the public.
Pultney Township meeting set
BELMONT COUNTY -- The monthly Pultney Township township meeting will be held at 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 17, at the township garage. The announcement did not specify which township.
Library branches announce programs
JEFFERSON COUNTY -- The Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County has announced several upcoming programs.
Brilliant Branch: Parents and children ages 2-4 can enjoy books, songs and more during Tot Time at 11:30 a.m. Aug. 27. Registration is required. For more information, call 740-314-4309.

Foundation accepting grant applications
WOODSFIELD -- The Monroe County Community Foundation, in partnership with the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio, is accepting grant applications from nonprofits, schools and public organizations for projects benefiting Monroe County residents.
The foundation will award grants supporting projects in five areas: arts and culture, community and economic development, education, environmental stewardship, and health and human services.
Funding also will be available through the John and Lois Baker Education and Economic Development Fund for Monroe County projects focused on education and economic development.
Grant requests should range from $500 to $5,000, although larger requests may be considered based on potential impact. Applications must be submitted online by Sept. 8.

MCCF's grants are funded through earnings generated from its endowment fund investments. In 2025, MCCF awarded nearly $45,000 to support 14 projects and programs throughout Monroe County.
