Murder suspect taken into custody
DELLROY – The search is over for Wesley B. “Buster” Clark, 52, last known address in Uhrichsville. Clark was arrested by Carroll County Sheriff’s deputies on Friday near Dellroy.
Clark was wanted for questioning in connection to the death of Dustin Moreland, 26, of Dennison, whose body was found Tuesday night off Lone Pine Road in Monroe Township in Harrison County. Reports indicate he had been shot.
The search for Clark, which utilized combined forces from Harrison, Tuscarawas and Carroll counties, began quickly afterward. According to a Find Dustin Moreland Facebook page, Moreland had made plans to travel with Clark to Texas for a job opportunity on an oil rig. However, Moreland’s family reported him missing last Friday, May 8, after they were unable to make contact with him. He leaves behind a wife, who is pregnant, and two young children.
Authorities searched two Malvern homes on Wednesday, but Clark was not found until Friday, when Carroll County officials received a tip that Clark was in the Dellroy area, wearing jeans and a red sweatshirt. Deputies later found that sweatshirt, and a K-9 Unit tracked the scent to a wooded area behind an empty home in Rose Township, near Dellroy.
“The suspect Wesley Clark has been taken into custody,” was posted on the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office’s Facebook page at 12:11 p.m. Hundreds liked the post and left comments commending the officers for their work in capturing Clark.
“Sheriff [Dale] Williams would like to thank all of you that continued to help in our search for Wesley Clark. The support from our community and outside counties was a great part of the apprehension of the suspect. Sheriff would also like to thank the Harrison County Sheriff’s office, Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s office, Carrollton Police Department, Dellroy Marshals, The Canton Cooperative Swat Team, The Atwood Rangers, and The Ohio State Highway Patrol for being part of the large scale operation,” was later posted on the Facebook page.
Clark was taken to the Carroll County Jail before he was moved to the Tuscarawas County Jail. He will be held there until the Harrison County prosecutor’s office is able to review the case.
The news of Clark’s capture comes as a relief to T-L staffer Mike Palmer, who bears a very slight resemblance to the murder suspect. On Thursday afternoon, Palmer was pulled over by Tuscarawas County deputies on I-77 near the Tuscarawas-Guernsey county line, after a concerned citizen saw him on his way to cover a baseball game and called 911.
Deputies approached the car with guns drawn, something our ace photographer and staff writer had never experienced, before Palmer was able to clarify his identity.
