Drivers find alternate routes from Nat’l Road

LANSING — Drivers who would normally travel through Lansing this week will have to take brief detours as work continues on a culvert replacement project on National Road.

The work began June 19, with the Ohio Department of Transportation’s contractor, Americon Industrial Services LLC from Youngstown, Ohio, carrying out the work. The culvert replacement is one of four that is being undertaken in Belmont County as part of a $1.1 million project. Other locations include a replacement at the intersection of Ohio 9 and Ohio 149 in Warnock, which will shut down part of Ohio 149 for a whole month at the end of the summer.

Luckily, residents have plenty of time before that particular shutdown, giving them a chance to find detours and alternate routes around the closure.

The work on National Road around Lansing should not take as long to complete. Sources with ODOT state that the closure of U.S. 40, which took effect Thursday, should only last for 10 days if it remains on schedule. During this time, all non-local traffic will be detoured onto Interstate 70 to bypass the construction. Although the detours will be inconvenient for motorists in the area, the end result of new culverts will be worth it in the long run, officials said. ODOT noted it appreciates residents being patient while construction occurs.
