ST. CLAIRSVILLE — A St. Clairsville urologist accused of drug trafficking saw his trial continued on Thursday.

Rodney Lee Curtis II, 64, of St. Clairsville, appeared before Belmont County Common Pleas Judge Frank Fregiato, who agreed to delay Curtis’ trial until Oct. 31. A new plea agreement deadline was set for Oct. 23 with a status conference Oct. 10.

Fregiato granted the motion to allow the parties further time to prepare for the case.

Curtis faces three counts of felony drug trafficking, two of them fourth-degree felonies and one a fifth-degree felony. He also faces two counts of possession of drugs, one a fifth-degree felony and the other a first-degree misdemeanor.

All the counts stem from events allegedly taking place April 26. Curtis’ alleged illegal activities took place outside of the scope of his practice, and there is no indication his practice facilitated the alleged crimes, investigators have said.

Because the alleged drug transactions occurred at his residence, the charges carry a forfeiture specification on the property.

According to the State Medical Board of Ohio, Curtis has no past disciplinary actions.

His recognizance bond was continued. Curtis is currently working with two area hospitals is working with court officials to match his schedule with recognizance restrictions.

In other matters:

Trevor Lee Garrison, 19, last known address in Jacobsburg, pleaded guilty to two counts of dissemination of matter harmful to a juvenile, a felony of the fifth degree occurring Dec. 1, 2016. In both cases the juvenile was a 14-year-old female. His sentencing was set for Aug. 28.

Lawanda Sade Hubbard, 25, of 1698 Liberty St., Akron, remains set to go to trial Sept. 11. She faces a charge of theft, a misdemeanor of the first degree allegedly occurring Feb. 13.

Kyle R. Keiser of 36501 Chestnut Ridge Road, Barnesville, was sentenced to six years in prison for one count of aggravated burglary, a felony of the first degree occurring June 4. He had burglarized a home in Somerton and stolen a purse.

Keiser’s attorney asked Fregiato to consider addiction was a motive for the crime. Drug and alcohol treatment while in prison was ordered.

Robert Lee Littrell III, 28, incarcerated, pleaded guilty to possession of a deadly weapon while under detention, a felony of the fourth degree occurring Feb. 21. His sentencing was set for Aug. 28.

Brody Allan Masciarelli, 22, of Bellaire was sentenced after being terminated from drug court for failing to report. He had been convicted of three counts of trafficking in drugs in the vicinity of a school, a fourth-degree felony; two counts of possession of drugs, felonies of the fourth and fifth degrees; and one count of complicity in trafficking in drugs, a fifth-degree felony. All the offenses occurred Oct. 7, 2015.

On each of the six counts, he was given five years of community control sanctions, six months jail and six months at the Eastern Ohio Correction Center. Sentences for the first three counts will be served consecutively, while the other three will run concurrently with the other sentences.

This will mean a total of five years of community controls and three years’ incarceration, with credit for 488 days. Fregiato also suspended 242 additional days for a total of six months in jail, and six months at the Eastern Ohio Correctional Center.
