Hospitals’ system fully restored

WHEELING — The emergency rooms of Ohio Valley Medical Center in Wheeling and East Ohio Regional Hospital in Martins Ferry now are fully operational after resolution of a computer issue.

“As of 10 p.m. (Wednesday), our EMSTAR emergency departments are off of diversion,” said Karin Janiszewski, director of marketing and public relations for OVMC and EORH.

She added, “Computer software capabilities have been fully restored and EMS can transport patients to our EDs (emergency departments) without issue.”

Emergency squad patients were diverted to other area hospitals last weekend because of the cyber-crime incident. The full diversion occurred after the OVMC-EORH computer system was attacked Friday night by Ransomware.

By Monday, remediation had progressed to the point that only a partial diversion of emergency room traffic to OVMC and EORH was necessary. The “yellow diversion” continued Tuesday and Wednesday.
