St. C. School District fiscal staff applauded

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — The fiscal staff of the St. Clairsville-Richland City School District was lauded for its continued excellence during Wednesday’s regular monthly meeting.
Treasurer Amy Porter and her assistants, Betty Milhoan and Valerie Lachendro, were recognized by the State of Ohio for exemplary financial reporting in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles for the year 2018.
Superintendent Walt Skaggs presented the award to the trio and thanked them for their service to the district.
“They make sure we’re fiscally responsible with all of our decisions and that we make sure our t’s are crossed and our i’s are dotted,” he said. “On behalf of the board and our administration and staff, we thank you for all that you do.”
Skaggs touched on a plethora of other topics during his remarks to the board, including continued infrastructure upgrades.
He reported security film will be installed next week on windows in all buildings. Also, new video distance equipment is being installed in the third-floor lab of the high school.
Skaggs said leaks were repaired on the roof of the administration building last week. He added an estimate is being given to repair leaking unions in the boiler supply and return lines located in the wall of the athletic director’s office.
The superintendent expressed his pleasure with the recent prom and after prom events, as well as the mock crash.
Under personnel, the following items were approved — three-year contract for Lowell Perkins as head of Support Services and Safety and Health Officer; one-year contract for Jim Yates as Technology Network Administrator; Mindy Husek as middle school summer teacher; resignation of Breanna Smith as kindergarten teacher; transfer of Kyle Brehm to kindergarten teacher beginning next year; and a contract for Glenn Sylvester as elementary custodian.
Ashley Dayton, Charles Patterson and Lance Rice were approved as classified substitutes for this school year, while Kristen Rateno had a supplemental contract approved as high school musical assistant director. Pupil activity contracts were approved for Moriah Agnew (middle school track) and Greg Kazmirski (varsity track assistant).
The board received the following donations during March — YourCause (high school principal fund, $10); Elizabeth & Scott Kain (Class of 2016 COSI trip, $50); Jason Newton (Class of 2016 COSI trip, $82); Kristin Wallace (Middle of the Road, $100); Friends of Belmont Juvenile Court, high school Staying Clean Club, $1,250); The Saints Club (athletic department, $10,000); Jacob and Sons Quality Meats (high school baseball, $500).
The following made donations to the elementary music program — Laney and Cynthia Ross ($8); Melissa Zaninelli ($8); Jayne Kemo ($16); Kristin Wallace ($16); William and Amber Roeder ($16); Debra and James Holden ($25); Keisha and William Miner ($8). The following made donations to the athletic department in memory of Laura Jo Prosser — Greg and Sandra Vike ($50); Kelsey Chevrolet ($150); Robert and Cathy Quirk ($100).
