Bridgeport Schools seeking superintendent
BRIDGEPORT — A pair of special meetings will be held next week as the Bridgeport Exempted Village School District looks to fill its soon-to-be vacant superintendent position.
According to Board of Education President Heidi Terek, the special meetings — Monday and Tuesday — will begin at 4:30 p.m. and 5 p.m., respectively, in the administrative offices on National Road.
A press release from the district office lists several items on Monday’s agenda, including acting on supplemental positions; discussion and possible action on an asphalt project; and action on a current position hired through the East Central Ohio Educational Service Center to be hired as a Bridgeport Exempted Village School District position.
The release added that a portion of each meeting will be held in executive session for employment purposes. Tuesday’s meeting is listed as executive-session only.
“Interviews will be held following the executive sessions,” Terek said via telephone Wednesday morning. “Interviews will also be conducted on Tuesday, with the second round of interviews being held on Monday, June 17.”
Terek said several individuals have applied for the position, which will become available when current Superintendent Zac Shutler’s contract expires on July 31. Shutler has, reportedly, already taken an administrative position in the Noble County School District.
Board of Education Vice President Jerry Moore said ideally the board would like to have a candidate to present to the board at its next regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, June 26.
Moore said approximately 10 individuals applied for the position, but not all will be interviewed.
“We, in speaking for the board, hope to be able to choose a very good, qualified candidate from this group of applicants who will continue to lead the district in the right direction,” Moore added. “We have a very good variety of professional individuals in the field.”
Moore said Randy Lucas of the ECOESC will assist the five board members and Treasurer Dana Garrison in the interview process. The board members, in addition to Terek and Moore include Don Cash Jr., Shirleeann Murad and Jodi Harkness.
The new superintendent will be the fifth in the new building. Mark Matz served during the changeover from Bennett Street prior to his passing. He was followed by Jerry Narcisi, who served on an interim basis until Ted Downing was hired and stayed for six years. Shutler is in his fourth year.
