EMS bumps up fund with sale of retired ambulances

CADIZ — Upon receiving bids, the Harrison County EMS Association will sell four old trucks that were put out for bid last month.

The association put four used ambulances that no longer served a purpose out for bids at the end of June. The vehicles have been replaced throughout the years, and the association was looking to re-home them.

Brandi Simmons, executive assistant, opened the bids at the Harrison County Board of Commissioners meeting on Wednesday. Three bids were received this week for the used equipment.

The four retired ambulances up for bid include1994, 1995, 2004 and 2006 models, Simmons said.

The first bid was from Amy Fisher, who offered $125 per ambulance. The second bid, from Brad Jackson, offered $500 for one ambulance, the 2006 model. The third bid was from Dave Mowery of Myers Equipment, who offered $500 for the 1994 and 1995, $1,200 for the 2004, and $6,500 for the 2006 Ford.

Myers Equipment Corp. had the highest bid, totalling $8,700 for all four vehicles.

Although Mowery was clearly the high bidder by a substantial amount, Commissioner Paul Coffland asked for EMS Association President Doug Crabtree’s recommendation prior to the commissioners’ approval of the bid from Myers.

“We went through the process. They’re not gaining any more value sitting there. My recommendation from the EMS is to accept Dave Mowery from Myers Equipment’s bid and move them on down the road,” Crabtree said.

“It’s been a long time since we got $500 for a squad,” Simmons noted.

The funds made from the sale of the used vehicles will go into a fund for the EMS Association.

“Obviously there’s always, later down the road, repairs on other ones (vehicles) or whatever it may be, that money could be put to good use for,” Crabtree said.

The funds could also be used to pay for insurance, he added.
