Verizon places tower in Bridgeport

BRIDGEPORT — Drivers along U.S. 40 and Interstate 70 in Bridgeport will notice a new addition to the skyline as they pass by — a new Verizon communications tower.

Work on erecting the tower started Tuesday and was expected to be completed by the end of the day, but there was no timeline for when all the components for the tower would be installed to make it operational, according to Kevin Crawford, a representative for Emerick Enterprises, which was placing the tower.

“It’s a 155-foot monopole, and Verizon is the top carrier,” Crawford said.

The tower was erected next to the Marathon gas station right along U.S. 40.

Bridgeport police chief John Bumba said the company doing the work handled traffic and that there was minimal impact to traffic flow.

Lauren Borell, Public Information Officer for the Ohio Department of Transportation, said Bridgeport would be responsible for any permits since the tower site sits within their corporation limits. Bumba said the village had obtained a permit for the structure.
