St.C. BOE hires new personnel

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — Members of the St. Clairsville-Richland City School District School District Board of Education approved numerous hires in the academic and athletic realms.

Most of the items on the agenda dealt with personnel, with Superintendent Walt Skaggs asking board members to approve the hires in a brief meeting held last week.

Ray Elerick was approved as elementary custodian (afternoon position), while Michael Duplaga had payment approved for his traffic control duties through this school year.

The following volunteers were approved — Chris Fogle (football), Mark Kefalos (volleyball, tennis) and Robert Sproul (golf), while Valerie Hogan, Jason Moore, Brian Thomas and Laura Winland were all given the nod as certified subs. Eliza Evou and Amber Hooper were approved as classified substitutes.

Laurie Davenport, Kim Evick, Lisa Giffin, Kim Goddard, Mindy Husek, Ellen Kuhar, Kristi McKeegan, Kathy Ranhart, Loretta Roe and Christa Truhan were approved as mentors for this school year. John Rea was approved as an athletic worker.

Supplemental positions were approved for Tom Sliva (reserve girls basketball, 9th grade girls basketball, baseball head coach), Brett McLean (conditioning coach) and Stephen Hicks (JETS team coach). Cathy Wolfe (9th grade cheering coach) had her pupil activity contracts approved.

In other matters, the board approved the use of the school parking area for the Holidays on the Hilltop Parade on Nov. 24.

Skaggs lauded building administrators in attendance for their continued willingness to adapt to the ongoing curriculum changes, as well as the overseeing of the recent active shooter drill in the district. He also informed the board that the district received a $2,000 grant from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation. It will be used to expand the Lexia program throughout the elementary school.

Relating to infrastructure, Skaggs reported freezers in both cafeterias have been repaired, as have exhaust stacks on the connector building.

The following donations were made during August: South Central Power (classroom amplification, $5,000); Your Cause (H.S. Principal Fund, $10); The Saints Club (athletic department, $2,500); Tom Kellas (athletic department, in honor of Kelly Rine, $400); The Saints Club (weight room account, $250). The high school volleyball program received donations from the following — Kelly Binger, $50; Stephanie Salsbury, $50; Irene Powell, $50; Stacy Thoburn, $50; Red Devil Club, $2,835.

The next meeting is set for 7 a.m. Oct. 9 the board office.
