Body in river identified

MINGO JUNCTION — The body of a woman pulled from the Ohio River on Tuesday afternoon was identified as that of Sabrina Hicks, who had been missing from Jefferson County since Nov. 13.

Brooke County Sheriff Larry Palmer Jr. said workers at JSW Steel in Mingo Junction noticed Hicks’ body floating in the river. They called for assistance around 1:45 p.m. Municipal police received assistance from sheriff’s deputies from Brooke and Jefferson counties in retrieving Hicks. Her body was taken to Mullenbach Funeral Home in Wellsburg, where the Brooke County medical examiner performed an initial investigation.

Palmer said the West Virginia Medical Examiner’s Office requested that Hicks’ body be transported to Charleston for an autopsy.

Hicks, 48, was a resident of Steubenville with two children, ages 13 and 19, according to social media posts regarding her disappearance.
