Man dies following fight in Adena

STEUBENVILLE — A case involving a man who died in a fight in Adena on Saturday evening has been turned over to the Jefferson County Prosecutor’s Office for review and to determine any possible charges.

The sheriff’s department got a call about the fight shortly after 10 p.m. Saturday at a house located at 80 McGlaughlin St., Adena.

Sheriff Fred Abdalla said Jason Knight, 47, of Oklahoma, who was living in Monroe County, was pronounced dead after the fight. Abdalla said Knight forced his way into the home and began fighting with Cody Sciarra, 27, of Scio. During the fight, Knight fell and hit is head on a chest of drawers, the sheriff said.

Both men ended the fight and went outside, where Knight collapsed, Abdalla said. Abdalla said people at the house attempted CPR on Knight.

Abdalla said a 12-year-old girl inside the home provided the best statement about what happened. Abdalla said the girl and Sciarra both called 911 after the fight.

Abdalla said Knight’s body was taken to the Cuyahoga County medical examiner’s office for an autopsy. The sheriff said the cause of death has to be determined as part of the investigation. Abdalla said the county prosecutor’s office will make a determination on whether charges will be filed.
