Cera announces passage of vet road naming bill

Bill honors Jefferson County veteran, PFC George Dennis McClelland

COLUMBUS, Ohio — State Rep. Jack Cera announced Wednesday the passage of House Bill 276, which designates the portion of Ohio 152 between Jefferson County Road 56 and Township Road 249 as “Private First Class George Dennis McClelland Memorial Highway.”

“Dennis McClelland’s family and former classmates reached out to my office about the road naming as a way to honor his service and ultimate sacrifice,” said Cera, D-Bellaire. “I am glad my colleagues in both the Ohio House and Senate voted in support of this proposal and applaud its passage.”

HB 276 includes provisions to rename 21 memorial highways and bridges throughout the state.

The designation of the road in Jefferson County was originally proposed by Cera in HB 53, but it was made a part of the larger bipartisan omnibus bill.

PFC George Dennis McClelland served in Vietnam as part of “A” Company of the 3rd Engineer Battalion, 3rd Marine division.

He was killed in action in Quang Tri Province, Vietnam, on June 23, 1969, at the age of 20.

The bill now moves to Gov. Mike DeWine’s desk for final approval.

The honorary renaming will be codified in the Ohio Revised Code and made effective 90 days from the date of the governor’s signature.
