Tappan Lake body is identified

Zanesville woman, 37, was the victim

SCIO — Harrison County officials have identified the body that was discovered in Tappan Lake last week.

According to officials, 37-year-old Lorie Storie of Zanesville has been identified as the victim.

Harrison County Prosecutor T. Owen Beetham said the body was located near the dam area of the lake Friday afternoon.

“The deceased was discovered in the water by a couple of fishermen Friday afternoon,” he said.

The Harrison County Sheriff’s Department, along with the Cuyahoga County coroner, responded to the call.

“BCI was also called, and a special agent was sent down,” Beetham said.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is an investigative law enforcement agency for the state of Ohio. It often provides support for local law enforcement on serious cases.

An autopsy is being performed on the deceased at the Cuyahoga County Coroner’s Office in Cleveland.

“We have scheduled an expedited autopsy with hopes that the results will be forthcoming soon so the deceased can be identified and members of the family can be contacted,” Beetham said.

Beetham said calls have been flooding in regarding a possible connection between the deceased and a 24-year-old man who went missing a few years ago. The sheriff’s office has fielded numerous phone calls from family and friends of missing Steubenville resident Shawn Antill. Antill was reported missing shortly before Christmas in 2017. According to prior reports, the local missing man was last seen near U.S. 250 in Cadiz on Dec. 23, 2017.

Prior to identification, the sheriff’s office did release a statement Tuesday morning that the body was not that of Antill.
