BRIDGEPORT — After last month’s regularly scheduled meeting was held at the municipal building with a 10-person attendance limit due to restrictions related to the coronavirus pandemic, officials held Tuesday’s meeting via teleconference.

Acting Mayor Norma Teasdale said she is hopeful that council’s next meeting will be held at the municipal building. Meetings are held at 6 p.m. on the third Thursday each month; the next meeting is set for May 19.

Teasdale was named council president pro tempore and acting mayor in Mayor David Smith’s stead by fellow council members late last month after Council President Marvin Husarik resigned.

During Tuesday’s meeting, council unanimously voted to revise Weeks Cemetery burial charges. The charges for opening and closing plot sites were increased by approximately $150.

Teasdale said the opening and closing is now $900 on weekdays and $950 on Saturday and Sunday. For cremations, the open and closing is now $550 on weekdays and $650 on Saturday and Sunday.

An increase in cemetery maintenance costs brought on the revised charges.

“In order to maintain the cemetery, we were forced to increase the prices,” she said.

In other news, council approved hiring a new sanitation truck driver. Council unanimously approved the hiring of Eric Tomolonis, who began working for the village on April 13 after the previous driver quit the position a few days prior.

Additionally, Police Chief John Bumba recommended council promote Officer Darwin Copeland to lieutenant. Council members unanimously approved the recommendation. Copeland is a part-time officer with the department.
