Monroe County reports one virus recovery

WOODSFIELD — The Monroe County Health Department reported this week that one of its two confirmed COVID-19 cases has now recovered from the virus.

After consulting with the individual, the health department shared the news to its Facebook page Monday morning. Director of Nursing Kara Dixon said the county had reported the two cases of the virus on April 4. One of the individuals is a 63-year-old female and the other a 64-year-old male.

“One (of the individuals) has recovered as of today,” Dixon said Monday. “The other is doing well but has not met all of the criteria for recovery just yet.”

Due to the low volume of cases in the county, Dixon said the department was unable to specify which individual has recovered.

The health department also took to Facebook to announce ways residents can cope with the stress of an infectious disease outbreak.

“The outbreak of COVID-19 may be stressful. Stress during this time can include fear and worry about your own health and the health of your loved ones, changes in sleep or eating patterns, difficulty sleeping or concentrating, worsening of chronic health problems, worsening of mental health conditions, or increased use of alcohol, tobacco or other drugs,” the department states.

The post goes on to include healthy alternatives to help cope with the stress that some may experience during this time, including keeping things in perspective regarding the virus, using credible sources for accurate health information, eating healthy foods and drinking plenty of water, getting enough sleep and physical exercise.

Dixon said the department wants residents to remain healthy during the pandemic, both mentally and physically.

“We encourage everyone to wash their hands, to wear a mask if you have to go out and stay at home, if you can,” she said. “We just want to keep everyone safe and we’ll get through this together.”
