Bridgeport principals receive new deals

BRIDGEPORT — A pair of principals in the Bridgeport Exempted Village School District were rewarded Wednesday with new contracts for their work with the students.

Elementary Principal Kamaron Sabinski and middle school Principal Anne Haverty each received a five-year deal during the regular monthly board of education meeting, which was held inside the administration building and via Zoom. Each of the five board members, along with Superintendent Brent Ripley, Treasurer Matt King and Assistant Treasurer Eric Meininger abided by the 6-foot social distancing restriction.

Ripley said Sabinski’s contract is worth $94,000 yearly, while Haverty will earn $85,000 annually.

“Kammie has been with the district for a long time and has done a fantastic job,” Ripley said while noting the difference between salaries. “Anne hasn’t been here as long, but she’s done an equally fantastic job.”

They were just two of several staff members who were awarded certified and classified contracts, all of which begin with the 2020-21 school year.

Also receiving five-year deals were Lee Hines (math teacher) and Terri Zapolnik (Title teacher). Jennifer Ciroli (preschool), Mackenzie Krieger (math teacher), Amanda Ponsetti (intervention specialist), Tracy-Lynn Rogers (intervention specialist), Jennifer Teasdale (Title teacher) and Morgan Castilow (kindergarten teacher) all received three-year deals. Receiving one-year pacts were Joanna Vincenzo (intervention specialist), Tracy Velickoff (speech teacher), Justin Kropka (career-based intervention), Brittany Hicks (exercise science), Tricia Zaccagnini (English teacher), Shane Roberts (middle school cross categorical teacher), Kira Dillon (third grade teacher), Deborah Glynn (Title teacher), Caroline McCabe (intervention specialist), Fred Ray (intervention specialist) and Sarah Zonders (band director). Patricia Tustin (third grade teacher) received a continuing contract.

John Anderson (custodian), Jeff Thrash (bus driver), Andrea Bishop (cafeteria), Julia Babka (bus driver) and Patricia Wallace (cafeteria) received one-year classified contracts. Andrew Antosz and Ron Hinton (bus drivers) were awarded continuing contracts.

Receiving one-year supplemental contracts were: Greg Honecker Jr., Larry Deem and Cole Smelley (assistant football coaches); Beth Albaugh and Marianna Kadylak (mentors); Maria Kayafas (parent coordinator); Ashley Krieger (National Honor Society and vocal/choir director); Elliott Dean and Jim Davenport (video board operators); Georgeann Canter (Junior Engineering Technical Society) Kim Harris and Amanda Ponsetti (activities co-directors); Chelsey Strain and Andrew Criswell (co-high school cheering advisers); Fred Ray (physical fitness director); Jim Davenport (high school yearbook adviser); Kristin Mazgaj (head volleyball coach); Tara Carpenter (assistant volleyball coach); Kamden Dulesky (eighth grade volleyball coach); and Cindy Archer (seventh grade volleyball coach).

In other news:

– Gena Spurlock was given a one-year contract as school nurse;

– Miki Clegg was approved as the third grade long-term substitute teacher, pending passage of testing for certification;

– Don Cash III received a one-year contract as intervention specialist;

– Maclaine Murad was given a one-year contract as kindergarten teacher.

The next regular monthly meeting will be held at 6 p.m. June 30.
