Local organization helping to combat childhood cancer

MOUNDSVILLE — A local charitable organization helped contribute more than $150,000 over the last four years to assist in finding new methods to help children suffering from cancer.

The Marshall County Childhood Cancer Awareness Corp. works in concert with Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, a pediatric cancer charity founded in 2005. Since being formed four years ago, the Marshall County organization has raised money through various funding efforts, often in cooperation with Marshall County Schools, to contribute to the cause.

Brenda Frohnapfel, representing the group, said its yearly fundraising efforts have raised the money in small increments, alongside donations from generous donors.

“We’ve been trudging away at it — we haven’t been able to do much with COVID lately,” she said. “We do a lot with the schools, like ‘Go Gold,’ ‘September Strong,’ … we do a lot of things through the school system. We also hold a golf scramble, work with the (Marshall County) Chamber of Commerce with their tree gala every year. We just plug away at it, lots of little things.”

Frohnapfel said 2020 hasn’t offered the opportunity for many fundraising activities due to public health concerns, but donations from perennial donors have continued to come in.
