Symphony goes virtual for fundraiser

BELMONT — The Wheeling Symphony Orchestra’s WSO on the GO Party in the Barn fundraiser will go virtual this year.

This year’s event, titled the WSO on the GO Holiday From the Barn Virtual Concert & Fundraiser, will be streamed Sunday and available from 5-10 p.m. The orchestra decided to move to a virtual format due to COVID-19 concerns. It will take place at Feisley Tree Farms, located just outside Barkcamp State Park.

“Every year, Party in the Barn funds our free ensemble concert series, WSO on the GO,” symphony General Manager Bryan Braunlich said. “Even though we couldn’t be together in person this year, we are so grateful for our friends at Feisley Tree Farms for allowing us to film at the barn, which provides an incredible backdrop for this holiday brass concert.

“Without the support of our sponsors and attendees, we wouldn’t be able to bring our musicians to all the incredible places throughout the Ohio Valley,” he added. “We hope you will join us virtually and get into the holiday spirit with this magical holiday concert.”

The concert will feature the orchestra’s brass quintet: Jason Allison on horn, Matthew Deihl and Don Duncan on trumpet, Evan Robinson on trombone and Phil VanOuse on tuba. Tickets for the virtual event are $75, which includes a donation to the WSO on the GO program, a password-protected link to the concert stream and a WSO gift bag.

Support from the WSO’s sponsors and donors, including title sponsor McKinley Carter Wealth Services, will allow all WSO on the GO concerts to be free to the public, to encourage new audiences to become longtime supporters.

Tickets can be purchased by phone at 304-232-6191, via email at boxoffice@wheelingsymphony.com or in person at the WSO box office at 1025 Main St., Suite 811, in Wheeling.
