Cadiz looking to turn empty lot into new store

CADIZ — The village is working toward the possibility of turning a vacant lot property into a new retail store.

The village of Cadiz, along with the Harrison County Community Improvement Corp., has been working with a developer to transform a village-owned vacant property on Commerce Drive into a possible location for a new retail store.

Village Administrator Ted Andrzejewski spoke about the plan during Thursday’s council meeting.

“Last week I had a conference call with the CIC and the developer. (We’re) looking at opening a small retail store on the property in front of Tractor Supply,” he said.

Andrzejewski said during that meeting they discussed the preliminary site plan, which includes the construction of a 10,000-square-foot building.

The next step will be for CT Consultants, an engineering and architecture firm retained by the village, to review the plans. He said the plans need to be reviewed to ensure there will be enough parking spaces, and the current water and sewer lines are not interfered with.

Once approved, the plans will be reviewed by the planning commission and then brought to council for approval, he said.

Andrzejewski added that the lot is a “nice location” for a retailer. The village is unsure as to what retailer will inhabit the space as of yet, but noted it will be a “retail store.”

In other matters, council approved an ordinance permitting village employees to donate sick leave to fellow employees who have run out of sick leave days.

Council next meets at 7 p.m. March 4 at the fire department social hall.
