Halloween activities scheduled throughout the weekend

BARNESVILLE — Halloween festivities get underway in earnest beginning today in the village of Barnesville.

The Municipal Building Spooktacular returns this year, and organizers urge trick-or-treaters to visit the municipal building and Barnesville Fire/EMS Department for treats between 5:30 and 7 p.m. today. In addition, there will be a trunk or treat event in the water department parking lot. Downtown businesses will be handing out treats and goodies as well.

A few communities will hold trick or treat on Friday, but much of the fun will occur Saturday and Sunday.

Deputies with the Belmont County Sheriff’s Department will join in the celebration from 6-9 p.m. Saturday at the courthouse, 101 W. Main St. in St. Clairsville. They will hand out treats, show off their spooky decorations and scan candy collected during trick-or-treat sessions for safety.

In the village of Belmont, costume judging is from 5-6 p.m. Saturday at the gym just ahead of trick or treat. Fun Night follows the collection of candy from 7-8:30 p.m. at the gym.

Bethesda will celebrate throughout the day on Saturday with its first ever Fall Fun Fest, beginning with craft and food vendors opening at 10 a.m. at Epworth Park’s picnic/play area. A cake walk starts at 11 a.m., followed by a pet costume contest at noon, wiener dog races at 1 p.m. and a pumpkin pie eating contest at 3 p.m. The Goblin Fun Run for ages 4-6 starts at 2 p.m. with runners ages 7-10 stepping off at 2:30 p.m.

In Woodsfield, trunk or treat and Halloween games begin at 2 p.m. Saturday. At 4 p.m. there will be a costume parade. All activities take place in the Village Square and Methodist Church parking lot, 101 N. Main St.
